Recent reports indicate that Hallmark Media plans to discontinue its TV Everywhere app and website, the platform that allowed viewers to sign in with a cable or satellite subscription to stream Hallmark content.
At first glance, the news may sound concerning to streaming viewers. However, for most cord cutters, the change will have little to no impact.
The decision affects a specific viewing method tied to traditional pay TV subscriptions. Streaming access to Hallmark through live TV streaming services remains unchanged.
What Is Actually Shutting Down
According to reports and notices sent to television providers, Hallmark will discontinue its TV Everywhere websites and app access effective March 31, 2026.
TV Everywhere services allow cable or satellite subscribers to log into individual network apps using their TV provider credentials. The Hallmark app was one of those options, offering on-demand access to programming from Hallmark Channel, Hallmark Movies and Mysteries, and Hallmark Family.
Once the change takes effect, viewers will no longer be able to authenticate the Hallmark app using a pay TV subscription.
Importantly, the Hallmark cable channels themselves are not shutting down, and the networks remain available through the providers that carry them.
Why Cord Cutters Are Not Affected
Cord cutters typically watch Hallmark channels through live TV streaming services rather than through the network's TV Everywhere app.
Those services continue to carry Hallmark channels today, including:
- Frndly TV
- Philo
- Sling TV
- YouTube TV
- Fubo
- DirecTV Stream
- Hulu+Live TV
Subscribers to these services already watch Hallmark content directly through the streaming service's app, so the shutdown of the standalone Hallmark TV Everywhere app does not change how they access the channels.
Hallmark Plus Continues
The change also does not affect Hallmark Plus, the company's subscription streaming service.
Hallmark Plus offers a library of Hallmark movies and series, along with original programming produced for the platform. Much of the catalog includes titles that first appeared on the company's cable networks and later moved to the streaming library.
That service operates independently of the TV Everywhere app and continues to be available to subscribers.
Why Cable Subscribers Used the Hallmark App
If you were wondering why someone with a cable subscription would use a network app, it comes down to how TV Everywhere services were designed.
These apps allowed cable or satellite subscribers to sign in with their provider credentials and watch network programming on streaming devices, phones, tablets, or laptops.
They also made it possible to watch television while traveling or on additional screens in the home without renting extra cable boxes from the provider.
In some cases, network apps also offered easier access to on-demand content than the apps provided by cable companies themselves.
A Routine Distribution Shift
The shutdown of the Hallmark TV Everywhere app does not signal a broader retreat from streaming.
Hallmark channels remain widely available through streaming providers, and the company continues to operate its Hallmark Plus subscription service.
Changes in where content appears are common across the streaming industry. Hallmark content, for example, previously appeared on Peacock before the company shifted its focus toward its own platform.
For cord cutters, the key takeaway is simple: if you already watch Hallmark through a live TV streaming service, nothing about this change alters how you access the channels.
